Toronto Art Book Fair

We hope that you will join us at our table during the Second Annual Toronto Art Book Fair this Thursday to Sunday at Artscape Youngspace on Shaw Street just North of Queen.

We will be featuring pins, patches, shirts, prints, sculptures, jewelry, book bags, pencil cases, scarves and zines at this super exciting event. Last year saw thousands of visitors over four amazing days of inexpensive artwork.

Exhibition at the Gardiner Museum

We hope you will be able to join us this Thursday evening from 7-10 pm at the Gardiner Museum to view works by 13 ESA Contemporary Photography students in the 2017 Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Incubator exhibition. A museum exhibition (or two!) is a fantastic way to end a truly epic and record setting year. Photographs will be up for auction and money will go to supporting the Contemporary Photography program. All are welcome to attend.

Congratulations Grade 12 Dance Majors!

Congratulations to the grade 12 Dance majors in their successful final ESA performance. The show was a tremendous accomplishment and a fantastic showcase of your growth over the past 4 years.  The pride and hard work you all put forth truly stood out. Thank you to all who came out to support these brilliant young individuals. Your support over the years has not gone unnoticed and continues to be greatly appreciated by all of us.

Saatchi Gallery Exhibition

Congratulations to grade 11 student Rachel Burns who will be representing Canada in England this summer!

Rachel will be exhibiting a photograph at Saatchi Gallery in London, UK next month, which was chosen from more than 24000 entries from 66 countries.

THE 2017 SAATCHI GALLERY ART PRIZE FOR SCHOOLS
SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

The Saatchi Galley is delighted to announce the shortlist for the Saatchi Gallery Art Prize for Schools 2017. This year the Prize received over 24,000 entries from 66 different countries. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter, the standard was extremely high and everyone should feel proud of their artistic achievements.

The panel of judges this year included Alice Anderson, Artist; Alistair Hicks, Writer and Curator; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery; Megan Piper, Gallerist and Founder of The Line; Dea Vanagan, Director, Hauser & Wirth Somerset

An exhibition at the Gallery will showcase artwork by the 20 shortlisted students from July 4th-13th 2017. The winner will be announced at an awards evening on July 4th.

DancESAtion Audition Wednesday May 17 @ 3:30 in Dance Studio 1

DancESAtion auditions for our 2017-2018 season will be taking place in Dance Studio 1 at 3:30pm on Wednesday May 17. All ESA students are welcome. If interested please pick up an audition package from Dance studio 1 (or see Ms. Friedman, Mrs. Michailidis, or Ms. Saum) before the audition. A flyer with more information is attached.

Lula Lounge – Music Theatre Grad Showcase

  1. Mark your calendars – the Music Theatre students are graduating and showcasing their talents at the infamous LULA LOUNGE  on June 5th – dinner reservations (almost sold out at 6pm – call to reserve your spot). Tickets to the show – $20 – can be purchased online at esainfo.ca. You must purchase tickets to the show, regardless of dinner reservations, and prove  your ticket info at the entrance.

End of Year Art Show and Sale

The Contemporary Art Department invites you to our annual fundraising event and exhibition on Thursday May 25 from 3.30 to 8pm.

Hundreds of works from all four grades and the Contemporary Photography Program will be displayed throughout the first floor of the school.

Sales are split 50/50 with artist and department, and tax receipts can be given for 50% of purchases over $40. We will be accepting cash and cheques.

We look forward to another enjoyable and exciting evening with the ESA community.

DancESAtion Auditions Wed. May 17 @ 3:30 in Dance Studio 1

Want to explore the world of dance? Come out and tryout for Etobicoke School of the Art’s Dance company DancESAtion!

We are inviting all interested dancers/performers to audition for the DancESAtion 2017-2018 season next week. Auditions will be held on Wed. May 17 in Dance Studio 1. Auditions are open to ALL ESA students. All interested participants need to sign in at 3:30 pm and auditions will start soon after.

You must bring in a completed Interschool athletics (Dance) Tryout and Participation form and a completed Medical Information Form with you to the audition.  These forms must be signed by a parent/guardian before you are able to audition. Forms are available in Dance studio 1 (or ask Ms. Friedman, Mrs. Michailidis, or Ms. Saum for one).

Please wear appropriate movement attire and be prepared to dance barefoot.

We are looking for dancer/performers who are:

  1. strong and diverse movers
  2. open to collaboration and works well with others
  3. invested in the creative process
  4. focused, committed and have strong work ethics
  5. interested in being challenged and passionate about dance

Commitment:

September through December : Monday & Wednesday – 3:30-5:30 pm

January through May: Monday & Wednesday – 3:30- 6:00 pm

We have an exciting year planned with multiple performance opportunities and guest artists!
