An Evening of Andrew – July 26th

We thought that you would like to know that an amazing group of Andrew Olnyk’s friends are organizing an event in his memory to raise funds for the new Just for Kids Clinic at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on Thursday, July 26.

Their goal is to raise a minimum of $2500 so that they can have a star in Andriyko’s name at the new Just for Kids Clinic in the newly-opened Our Lady of Mercy wing at St. Joe’s. Here is the link for the St. Joe Foundation site where you will find us under Events http://www.foundation.stjoe.on.ca/

Many of Andrew’s talented friends will be performing throughout this Evening of Stars, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Many of his former friends are now professional musicians and you will be pleasantly surprised at the level of performance.

The event starts @ 7:30 and the program will begin @ 8. It is being held at earth Bloor West Restaurant (Bloor just west of Jane) in their private event area which is downstairs. Their bar will be open and appetizers will be available to purchase.

Seeking Speakers/Presenters and Experiences for Acting for the Camera

I am currently writing a new elective course open to all grade 11 and 12 students at ESA, which will launch this September. The course, entitled Acting for the Camera, will encompass some history of the form, what actors can expect to experience on a television or film set, how to act for camera (dependent on media), how to audition for television and film work, plus case studies and readings from celebrated and experienced actors and directors. I am seeking, from our valuable and valued parent advocates, individuals with connections to the television and film industry who are willing to advise me on keeping the course current and relevant. Any advice and correspondence would be greatly appreciated. I am available at [email protected] throughout the summer. Thanks. Darren Black

Attn: Parents: Drama Seeking Table Saw and Yoga Mats

I am looking for a gently used table saw that can replace our much-loved
but aging table saw in Room S17. It is an important item for Drama and Musical Theatre. I am simply looking for advice on model and an avenue for purchasing a gently used table saw.
Also, I have been searching for a place to purchase 30 new yoga mats for one of the Drama rooms. Again, I am hoping to get best quality for a reasonable price as I purchase in bulk. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. [email protected]

Goodbye and Welcome…

ESA Students Promoting hipTix

Two of our music theatre students hit the red carpet for the Dora Mavor Moore Theatre awards in Toronto recently.  Thomas Orwen-Goldhar (going into Grade 10) and Devin Cecchetto (an incoming Grade 9 student) weren’t receiving awards, though; they were interviewing nominees and promoting hipTix, a program designed to get young people into Toronto theatres by offering tickets for $5.

Please click on the link below to read more about the program and to see some clips featuring these excellent young reporters:
