Talent Wanted! Richview United Church Showcase of Stars

Second Annual Fundraiser to be held on Sat. April 27th.

The organisers are now looking for performers willing to volunteer their time and talent in return for the opportunity to perform. They are looking for variety – vocal, instrumental, dramatic readings, small groups (duos, quartets, ensembles).

The evening will feature a 2-part program where performers would perform 1-2 numbers in each part.  At intermission there will be a silent auction and an opportunity to promote performer CD’s if you have one of your own.

ESA students have a history of performing at events staged at Richview United Church.  If you are interested, contact the organiser, Mary-Jane Jarvis  at <[email protected]>.

Mainstage 2013: Tales from The Arabian Nights; March 19th-21st

In the midst of a wet and cold Toronto winter, escape to warm shifting sands of 9th century Baghdad with this year’s Mainstage production of Tales from The Arabian Nights. Directed by Sia Katsoupa, this one act production carries its audience in the kingdom of Shahryar: a bitter king who casts a murderous vengeance on all women due the infidelity of his queen. We witness Scheherezade, daughter of Shahryar’s chief assistant, weave a carpet of riveting stories in an attempt to prolong her life and win a stay of her assured death sentence.

Through a series of challenges and hurdles during this tumultuous school year for students and staff alike, the actors, director and stage managers have continued to rehearse and produce this captivating production.

Tales from The Arabian Nights previews at 7pm on March 19th in the Mini Theatre at ESA. The run continues with 4pm and 7pm shows on March 20th and 21st. Admission is free. The show runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The Mini Theatre seats approximately 70 patrons. Adults who arrive more than 15 minutes prior to curtain time will be given designated seating. Students should line up prior to the show.

Ms. Hogg’s Grade 9 Drama Majors Showcase

The season of class Drama Showcases begins again this afternoon and evening with the first presentation by Ms. Hogg’s Grade 9 Drama majors. The Side Effects of Lying is a fresh take on some much-loved traditional fairy tales. The students explore (and re-arrange) ten fairy tales written by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm in the early 1800’s. Ms. Hogg and her students have been working tirelessly over the last three and a half weeks to mount this engaging and humorous production. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students at the door. Show times for Wednesday February 27th are 4pm and 7pm in the Mini Theatre. The production is approximately one hour in length.

Ms. Bourne and her grade 9 class will continue the Drama Showcase season next Wednesday, March 6th with their ensemble production. Times, ticket prices and location are the same for both grade 9 showcases. Come out for some great theatre and cheer on these wonderful first year Drama Majors!
