“Speak the Speech, I Pray You…” A Celebration of Shakespeare’s Character Moments

Shakespeare

The Grade 12 Drama Majors proudly present “Speak the Speech, I Pray You…” A Celebration of William Shakespeare’s Character Moments. The students have been working diligently on the rehearsal of Shakespearian monologues and the design of original costumes in preparation for these final performances. The result is a visually stunning and emotionally gripping series of approximately thirty character moments from Shakespeare’s well known and lesser known plays. Please join us in the Mini Theatre at 4pm or 7pm on Friday, November 29th. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Teens, drugs, alcohol and you – a guide for parents. Dec. 10th, 7pm, Library

Save the date!

Learn more about youth substance use and its effects; expand your understanding of the risks and current research related to youth substance use; hear about and discuss parenting issues and communication strategies for addressing this inevitable fact of teen life. Substance use has become a common fact of teen life. Make sure you and your teen understand the impacts on their minds, bodies, and still developing brains.

Due to the positive response after her September presentation and the request from parents for more opportunity to address this issue, Gayla Forer from Breakaway will return on December 10th. We trust you will find the information she has to share eye opening and invaluable. There will be time for questions and discussion. If you have any particular questions or themes you hope Gayla will address please email them to us ASAP at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you on Dec. 10th, 7-9 pm, in the ESA Library

Please note – this event replaces the scheduled School Council meeting.

ESA Silent Auction – Fabulous Items and Experiences to be had!

The 17th Annual Silent Auction is only a week away. See the attached list of amazing selections! Bidding opens at 10 am and closes at 2:15 pm.

Thank you ESA!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Fall Food Drive.  We collected just over 230 pounds of food, helping the Daily Bread Food Bank exceed their goal for this fall’s food drive.

Another thanks to everyone who cooked and baked, or just came out to gather together for Great Soup last Monday.  It was perhaps our most successful event yet.  We raised almost $500 which will be going to Philippines relief in the wake of last week’s devastating typhoon.

Students in SEEDS Me to We will be holding a bake sale in the Foyer at lunch on Monday to raise additional funds to top up our Great Soup dollars.  Please give generously.

Visual Art Parents Council

Visual Art Parents Council

Hello!

With Portfolio Day behind us I am hoping to work towards a second meeting for all parents interested in participating in the organization we began towards the end of last year.

I know several parents contacted me to say they could not attend that first session – if you have not received visual art related email from me recently and are interested in being part of the council, please send me your contact info at [email protected] so I can include you in future events.

Thank you!

Competitions for Visual Art, Film, and other students at ESA!

2013-2014 Competitions

It has become an annual event, and a part of the Visual Art curriculum at ESA, to participate in applying to three specific competitions every year.

We take great pride in our success in all three, each of which provides multiple positive experiences for our students. Exhibiting in New York, or in an American Museum, or in one of the most significant privately owned museums of contemporary art in the world are all dreams of artists, and here at ESA we do it every year.

I have listed the web links for the three competitions below, all of which are now accepting entries. As we do not know exactly what the judges are seeking, it is advisable to enter as many things as you can between now and the closing deadline.

Albright Knox Gallery – closing deadline February 13, 2014:

Another amazing opportunity is the option to participate in our first ever Art Talks event December 16th at ESA:
We have a list posted in room 102 to sign up for the event. More information if you email: [email protected]
Any questions or ideas just let us know, let’s start planning and make this as awesome as it can be!!!

Thank you!
