ESA Music Theatre Dazzles with the TSO and Broadway’s Ashley Brown

More than 70 students from Grade 11 and 12 Music Theatre joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and singer Ashley Brown for the annual TSO Holiday Pops concerts. Singing everything from traditional carols to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, the choir was uniformly praised for their sound, energy and professionalism. Maestro Steven Reineke (Principal Pops Conductor for the TSO) also conducts the New York Pops and National Pops in Washington DC, but calls ESA “the best young choir he’s ever heard”! ESA has already been invited to join the TSO for the 2014-15 season and is grateful for the opportunity to perform with such world class performers and conductors. Congratulations to all involved for the well deserved standing ovations!IMG_4086IMG_1349

Monday December 16th – Art Talks at ESA!!! All Welcome!

Art Talk 1

ESA Visual Art students often speak with great clarity about what they are creating – about their connection to art. This has been a hidden aspect of the work that we do – known only to those who participate in our critique sessions. Art Talk 1 will allow us to share this most rewarding process with 500 of our closest friends.

As our first organized event of this kind we welcome you to participate as active members of the experiment. If it be successful we plan to take the show on the road in 2014.

You are invited to join us for Art Talk 1, at 7pm on Monday December 16th in the auditorium at Etobicoke School of the Arts, 675 Royal York Road.

$5 student $10 adult – tickets at the door. Proceeds to the Visual Art Department at ESA

Donations over $100 are eligible for a charitable tax receipt – cheques to be made out to SESAT – Visual Art.

Reminder – tomorrow Tuesday Dec. 10, 7 pm, Library: Teens, Drugs, Alcohol and You – a Guide for Parents

Learn more about youth substance use and its effects; expand your understanding of the risks and current research related to youth substance use; hear about and discuss parenting issues and communication strategies for addressing this inevitable fact of teen life.  Make sure you and your teen understand the impacts on their minds, bodies, and still developing brains. Due to the positive response after her September presentation and the request from parents for more opportunity to address this issue, Gayla Forer from Breakaway will return on December 10th. We trust you will find the information she has to share eye opening and invaluable. There will be time for questions and discussion.

We look forward to seeing you on Dec. 10th, 7-9 pm, in the ESA Library.  Please note – this event replaces the scheduled School Council meeting.
