  • By the way…  The ESA Library already has over half of these titles in our collection (proud to say!).
  • Drop by and check one out for the holidays.

From the Canada Reads website:

Canada Reads 2016 is all about “starting over.” The show will feature books about transformation and second chances, stories of migrants, immigrants and others who are choosing – or forced – to make major changes in their lives. One thing we’re not changing is our host: Wab Kinew is back!

  • Explore the 15 longlisted books below.
  • The final five books and the panellists who are defending them will be revealed on January 20.
  • Canada Reads 2016 debate week will take place March 21-24.

See the list of titles here.

Thank you from Sesat

Blue_OrnamentsIt isn’t just the balmy weather making it hard to believe that another calendar year is coming to an end and the academic year is almost at its halfway mark, IT IS that time flies when you are working with such wonderful people. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents and guardians for your ongoing support of the SESAT (Supporters of ESA Talent) mission throughout the year thus far.

Fundraising Initiatives: To update you all on our fundraising initiatives over the past few months (since September); we have raised a total of $25,000.00 – distributing $2,000.00 to each major to date; we have sold concessions at 6 events over multiple nights and recently enjoyed our flagship Silent Auction & Craft Fair event which took place on November 21st;; the total number of volunteer hours dedicated towards these events is at 1000 hours or an average of 70 hours/week; we increased our volunteer roster by 24 more fantastic individuals.

Built Bridges In-House and Welcomed Community Partnerships: We have also created a successful collaboration between the school and student councils which have brought greater strength to each and therefore stronger bridges built within our ESA family. We have recently gained new community partners including Starbucks Coffee, Sweet Samosa Factory and TinNel’s Patties. Their donations have helped to keep our costs down.

New focus for 2016: Our new focus for 2016 will be to identify more community partnerships as well as corporate sponsors, grant opportunities and of course to add more volunteers to our current roster. If you would like to give a little or a lot of your time (whatever you can) to help out at an event or by taking on a behind-the-scenes task, a little or a lot goes a long way to help support these wonderful and talented young ladies and young men. If you would like to know how you can help, please email us at [email protected].

Without your ongoing support we would not be able to accomplish what we set out to do each year so again thank you and we wish you all a safe and happy Holiday Season and all the best this New Year 2016!

From all your friends of SESAT!

December 16, 2015 – NO LATE START

The Late Start scheduled for Wednesday, December 16th has been cancelled.

All classes will be on a regular schedule beginning at 8:48.

Library Items: Renew or Return before the holiday!

  • Do you have items out from the ESA Library?
  • Are they due before or after the Winter Break?
  • Have you finished that book, but just keep forgetting to bring it back?

Bring your Library materials into the Library and we will happily renew them for you, or accept them back so we may lend them out to another interested reader.

Check out the new self-service features and capabilities at the updated ESA Library Catalogue.

  • Login using your network credentials and renew your own books!
  • This will work twice…  after that you have to come into the Library to ask about renewing an item any longer than that.

While you’re at it, download the new Insignia app for your mobile device, and have the Library – well, the catalogue anyway – at your fingertips wherever you are.

AND…  when you bring back those books, be sure to fill out a Holiday Reads ballot – located at the circulation desk – and enter into this year’s Holiday Draw.  Five lucky winners will head home for the holiday with brand new books and/or blankets and more.

Network Passwords: When did you last reset yours?

  • Are you in the habit of re-setting your network password at the beginning of every month?
  • Have you re-set your password in the last two weeks?

If you answered no to either of the above questions…  you are strongly recommended to re-set your network password before heading off for the Winter Break this Friday.

Logon from home or drop by the Library and pop onto a TDSB networked machine to change your password, so it doesn’t expire on you over the Winter Break.

Remember to change you password again when you get back to school at the start of the New Year.
