Metro Morning – Today at 6:25 am

Tune into CBC’s Metro Morning at 6:25 am this morning (Thursday) to hear Shelley Marshall discuss her show, Hold Mommy’s Cigarette, which is being performed on our stage tonight (Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 pm).  The show has sold well and after the promotion on the radio we are hoping it will be sold out. Shelley’s extraordinarily kind donation of her show means that 100% of the proceeds will go directly toward supporting our mental health and physical fitness initiatives.

Thanks for your support!

Great News, but…

The great news is that the TDSB has granted the school an extra teacher to address our concerns about very large grade 9 and 10 class sizes.  The “but” of this news is that it will naturally cause some disruption as we adjust class sizes and create new classes.  This means that many students in grades 9 and 10 will have timetable changes that will start next week.  I know that this can cause some anxiety for both students and their parents and we are making every effort to make the transition as smooth as possible.

If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me or your student’s Vice Principal.

ESsays: Creative Writing Blog

ESsays is ESA’s own Creative Writing Blog.

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome this year’s student editors Rachel Carmichael Campbell and Spencer Cetinic.  Following upon the success of our inaugrual year last year, under the direction of (now ESA grad) Sauvanne Julien, we are looking forward to another exciting year of student writing.

E.S.says accepts submissions year round.  So send us the absurd, the witty, the bold and the downright nonsensical.

Best yet, this blog will culminate in an end of year book of letters!

Indeed we have some extra hard copies of last year’s inaugural publication, Letters Vol1, still available for sale for $10 each.   See Ms. Wray in the Library to purchase a copy for posterity.

With that said, what are you waiting for? Grab your plumes and start scratching!

Find the blog here:

Yearbook Pick-Up

If you did not pick up your 2014-15 ESA Yearbook last June…  please drop by the Library before or after school to collect it.  We have approx. 125 students who did not collect their yearbook last June.

Not sure whether you were supposed to get one or not?  Refer to the list posted on the whiteboard inside the Library.

New Month, New Network Password

All students – and Staff!! – are reminded that they are strongly recommended – indeed encouraged – to get in the habit of changing network passwords at the start of every new month.

  • You will be forced to change your network password every 42 days anyway.
  • Do it every month and you’ll never end up in a bind and be frozen out of your account because your password has expired.

You must also have a minimum repertoire of 5 unique network passwords.

  • Pick a word that has meaning for you and follow it by the number of the month, each and every month.
  • i.e. October = icecream10,  November = icecream11, etc.
  • This is a guaranteed recipe for success for those among us who have trouble remembering the myriad different passwords we maintain for all different aspects of our lives.

Together Let’s Make some Noise

Hello ESA Community!

I am writing to introduce the coordination team for the upcoming Silent Auction 2015 – Claire MacKenzie, Rochelle Douris and Tracey Ehl Harrison; that’s me.   We are looking forward to jumping in to work with the ESA community and building on all of the great stuff that’s been done in previous years to support the programs at ESA. The Silent Auction and Craft Fair will be taking place on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Mark your calendar!

When my daughter was a grade 9 student, I have to say that I was blown away by the school environment and the creativity and extent of student talent. Wow. I bet planning is well underway for this year’s shows and so it’s fitting that we are up and running quickly too with our planning for the craft fair and silent auction, SESAT’s largest annual fundraiser.  Last year, together we raised over $14,000 on this one day.  These fund helped all of our students for the rest of the year.

It’s time to connect with your networks and neighbourhoods to find some great donations for the 2015 auction. Be creative….maybe you know a chef who’d give a lesson for 2 or someone with a cottage they rent out. Maybe your sister-in-law owns a car dealership and has some extras on the lot…Maybe your favourite travel agent, spa, restaurant or clothing spot would be willing to pitch in. Maybe your student would be willing to paint a family portrait, do a photo shoot or invite a cameo appearance in their film.

Every donation counts. Don’t be afraid to THINK BIG. Last year, we were able to auction getaway weekends, sailing excursions, tickets to many great events, and weekend rental of a luxury car, all combined to raise the most in auction history. Our ESA families have contributed above and beyond and we hope that will continue. We’ve also got a great list of organizations who have been generous before and SESAT members will be reaching out to them again.

We’ve got a couple of tools for you to use in seeking donations: an introductory letter; and, the donation form (see the two attachments below). It’s important that our donors fill out the form, so we know who to thank and so that we can send them a tax receipt. Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $25. (Please note that gift cards and in-kind services are not eligible for tax receipts.) You’ll see that we’re seeking all donations by Tuesday, November 17. That way, we can have all of the bid sheets ready to go and, importantly, create a thank you video that includes all of our donors. The video will be shown at the Silent Auction and posted on the ESA website for all to enjoy!

If you have some ideas, questions or are able to source a donation, please contact me with the good news at [email protected]. We will get in touch regularly to let you know how it’s going.

Thank you for your help! It’s a silent auction, but together let’s make some NOISE!
