On October 9, the ESA cross country team took part in another very successful west regional championships at Stan Wadlow Park in East York. Virtually every runner put in a personal best performance and we had 15 runners advance to the Metro Championships, scheduled for October 23. Some of those runners were Simon Pella (20th, senior boys), Cabot Fox (17th, midget boys), Christian Filan (14th, midget boys), Malte Zumbansen (9th, junior boys), Joel Purvis (6th, senior boys), and Jake Leblanc (5th, junior boys). Our medallists were the two Bessai brothers: Matias, who finished 2nd in the midget boys race, and Santi who – as expected – won the senior boys race for the 2nd consecutive year. The only team entered were the junior girls placed an excellent 2nd. Lead by a 6th place run from Julia Jairath and followed up by a 7th from Alana Park, 9th Jade O’Hara, 10th Olena Leshchyshen, 12th Sofia Goulart, 14th Deanne Balas and 21st Sophie Henke Tarnow, the girls were within 1 position of defeating the powerhouse Richview team but had to settle for second. They’ll have a go at OFSAA qualification on the 23rd as well. Congratulations to all involved!
