Ms. Doctor is the Toronto-based author of three novels (the last two of which are in the ESA Library collection):

  • Stealing Nasreen;
  • Six Metres of Pavement (which won a Lambda Literary Award in 2012 and was short-listed for the Toronto Book Award); and,
  • the recently released All Inclusive.

Ms. Doctor was named as one of CBC Books’ “Ten Canadian Women Writers You Need to Read Now” and was the recipient of the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Dayne Ogilvie Grant (2011).  She also curates the Brockton Writers Series.  Lastly, for now, she is a proud member of The Writers Union of Canada.

In her presentation Ms. Doctor will focus on two things:

  • Being a writer: choosing a writing career, writing process, managing writing time, how to get published and connected in the writing world; and,
  • Being an LGBT writer, including a discussion about coming out, and her own life as an LGBT person and writer
