We encourage all Grade 8 students who think that ESA Music Theatre might be the place for you to audition. We would love to see you!
ESA Music Theatre is excited to offer an audition workshop to students seeking assistance with preparation of your audition video. The workshop will be held on Wednesday Nov 19th from 4:00-5:30. Students must sign up on the Google Form below and must be accompanied to the school and picked up by a parent or guardian.
For your audition, you should submit:
A 1 -2 minute excerpt from any song that shows your strengths in both singing and storytelling. This song can be from the music theatre canon or any genre, like a pop or folk song. At the beginning of your video, please state your name and your interest in the ESA Music Theatre Program. Here is a “how-to” video on recording your submission: https://youtu.be/MtgQ71_AM7U
You will also submit a video/audio recording of a maximum of 90 seconds outlining the process and purpose of the performance(s) including:
- Why did you select/choose this performance(s)? (what about this song speaks to you?)
- How did you prepare for the performance? (Tell us a little bit about your rehearsal process).
- What were you most proud of in your performance video?
- Identify one challenge you faced in your performance and how you overcame it.
We have provided the music and tracks for five songs, as well as all of the materials necessary to prepare and perform them in your video audition. You can use these resources to help you in your preparation, but can also sing any song that you are comfortable with. You do not have to sing on top of an instrumental track, but are encouraged to do so. Please make sure that your voice is easy to hear above the track. You may also use a live accompanist.
If you have any difficulty in preparation, we have student mentors who are available to help you with the logistics of your audition, and workshops when you can obtain help to prepare and record your piece. More information will be provided on the www.esamusictheatre.ca website. You will also find a helpful how-to video on this website in preparing your video.
