Portfolio Day 8 November 3

If you are thinking of applying to ESA this year, or are someone who would like to see what our grade 12’s have been up to, please join us between 7pm and 10 pm to view more than 2000 art works hung throughout the first floor of the building.

Parents – a reminder that some of the post-secondary representatives will be setting up tables in the library beginning at 6.30 Friday evening to speak with you about their programs. You are welcome to arrive this half hour before the general public to have any questions answered and meet the reps.

2017 Choreographic Workshop

Tickets are on sale now for the 2017 Choreographic Workshop. It is a wonderful evening of talent that is happening on November 8th, 2017 at the Nancy Main Theatre at ESA. For ticket information, please visit, esainfo.ca or you are welcome to purchase tickets at the door at 6:00pm

Grade 9 Curriculum Evening

Parents of Grade 9 students will have an opportunity to hear information regarding the Grade 9 curriculum from all departments.
Curriculum leaders will present information about course content, types of assessment, extra support availability and course highlights.
The program will run from 6:00 – 8:30pm.

SAT Registration Dates

Grade 11 and 12 students considering applying to schools in the US that require the SAT should be aware that the next application deadline is fast approaching.

To write the SAT’s on October 7th registration must occur by September 8th.

Exhibition at the Gardiner Museum

We hope you will be able to join us this Thursday evening from 7-10 pm at the Gardiner Museum to view works by 13 ESA Contemporary Photography students in the 2017 Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Incubator exhibition. A museum exhibition (or two!) is a fantastic way to end a truly epic and record setting year. Photographs will be up for auction and money will go to supporting the Contemporary Photography program. All are welcome to attend.

DancESAtion Audition Wednesday May 17 @ 3:30 in Dance Studio 1

DancESAtion auditions for our 2017-2018 season will be taking place in Dance Studio 1 at 3:30pm on Wednesday May 17. All ESA students are welcome. If interested please pick up an audition package from Dance studio 1 (or see Ms. Friedman, Mrs. Michailidis, or Ms. Saum) before the audition. A flyer with more information is attached.

Art Talk 7 Friday March 31 and Contemporary Art Events

ESA Contemporary Art invites you to a series of remarkable events

1. Art Talk 7 – March 31
Please join us for Art Talk 7 on Friday March 31st from 7-9pm in the first floor auditorium at OCADU. 15 of our amazing students will be speaking about their research, thinking, and investigations. All are invited. Event is free.

2. Contact Photography April 20
Join us for our annual Contact exhibition at Artscape Youngspace on April 20th from 7-9pm. Our grade 12 photography students will be exhibiting stunning work in the hallways of the second and third floors. All are invited. Event is free.

3. Sale and Exhibition May 25
We present our end of the year sale and exhibition on Thursday May 25th from 3.30 to 8pm. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. Great prices on more than 2000 art works. Sales are split 50/50 with students and tax receipts are issued for 50% of total sales. All are invited. Event is free. Hope to see you there!

Photography Summer Pre-College Program in New York City

Hi everyone.

This is an exciting moment for us. School of Visual Art in Manhattan – http://www.sva.edu/ – has built an ESA specific, photography-based, Pre-College Program for our students. This is a three week course focused on contemporary photography and artistic practice. Students will receive college credit, work with photo based artists and art gallery staff and the photography staff of SVA towards an exhibition in New York.

This is an incredible opportunity to experience an intensive post-secondary class, and to try living and being an artist in New York City. Our participating students will have opportunities to meet other high school students from around the world participating in other pre-college programs at SVA – info here.

Summer 2017 Pre-College Registration FormSD

ESA’s STEM Council Visitor – Ms. Tracy Stockley

ESA’s STEM Council (Science Technology Engineering and Math) is pleased to host a visit from Ms. Tracy Stockley tomorrow (Wednesday) at lunch in Room S15. Ms. Stockley is a clinical lab director at Toronto General Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. She oversees labs that perform genetic testing for cancer and other inherited diseases. Ms. Stockley is also a professor at University of Toronto.

All are welcome. Students may eat their lunches during this informal discussion.

STEM is always looking for family or community volunteers who would be willing to discuss their STEM experiences with interested students at lunch. Please contact STEM student leader, Julia Jairath at [email protected]

This Week’s ESA Science Grade 10 Lunch-time Tutorial

ESA Science is pleased to continue the weekly “Lunchtime Tutorials” for Grades 9 and 10.

This Thursday, Mr. Berkan will review Grade 10 “The Cell Cycle and Mitosis“.

Tutorials take place in Room S14 and begin about 15 minutes into lunch. The atmosphere is very welcoming and students may eat lunch.


PD8 + NY Summer Program meeting NEW DATE

All parents of those preparing for PD8 in 2017 and all students who will be participating are asked to join us for a meeting on Wednesday December 14 at 7pm.

We will cover all aspects of preparing for a successful experience, implications for post-secondary opportunities, scholarships, and process to have a successful application season.

We will also be launching an brilliantly exciting new opportunity for ESA students we are developing in New York this July.

Parents and students who will be part of PD9 are certainly also encouraged to attend.
