ESA Drama Presents A Doll’s House – Tickets Now On Sale

The Drama Department of the Etobicoke School of the Arts is proud to present A Doll’s House.  Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 masterpiece introduces us to Nora Helmer, a doting wife and mother whose life is dedicated to the nurturing of her family.  However, Nora harbours a secret: some years ago she borrowed a staggering sum of money without her husband’s knowledge in order to finance his recovery from an illness.  The scheme succeeded but the secret debt looms large in the shadows.  As the truth starts to unfold, it threatens to tear apart Nora’s construct of marriage, gender roles and family values, challenging her to examine who she is and what role she’s truly meant to play in her world.

Performed by a cast of teenagers and directed by ESA drama teacher Natasha Brault and ESA alumni Taylor Sutherland, A Doll’s House raises questions about gender politics that are as resonant today as they were in Ibsen’s time.

Show dates are Feb. 20, 21, 24, 25 and 26 at 7 p.m., and Feb. 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. at The Theatre Centre 1115 Queen Street West, Toronto. General Admission. Tickets on sale at www.theatrecentre.org
