Welcome! We are so glad you are joining us next year.
Questions about Course Selection?
If you are a TDSB student, your Grade 8 Teacher/Guidance Counsellor should have access to your course selection sheet. Here is a copy:
If you are not currently registered in a TDSB school – you would choose your courses through a google form through email, Here is the link:
Because of the nature of our programming – there is really not much “choice” for electives in Grade 9. Most courses have been decided for you! There are three places where you may need to make a decision or inform us about your level.
A) English
If you are an English Language Learner and require Language supports, you can choose either one or two levels of ESL. If you choose one, it will take the place (in your selection chart) of the Grade 9 De-streamed English course. If you take two levels of ESL (for example ESLC and ESLD), it will also replace your Phys. Ed option – and you will need to take a Physical Education course in a later year.
B) French
If you have been in an Ontario school and taking French since Grade 4 – then it is expected you would take Grade 9 Academic French. If you came to Ontario or started taking French later than Grade 4 – you have the option to take beginner French, however if you did well in French in Grade 7/8 you mat decide you wish to take the Academic French. The Academic is required if you plan on taking French past grade 9. If you took Enriched or Emersion French, you may choose to go right to the Grade 10 Academic French.
C) Physical Education or Learning Strategies
Most students will select Physical Education in Grade 9, and one Phys, Ed, credit is needed to graduate. However, if you are looking for some additional learning supports and help transitioning to High School – then you may choose to take Learning Strategies instead. GLE1O9 is for students with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and GLS1O1 is for students without an IEP.
