Night School and e-Learning

Night School

** Registration for Semester 2  Night School Begins  November 18, 2025 **

The Toronto District School Board offers Night School credit courses that are open to all high school students working towards their high school diploma. Students may take a new credit course or retake a course previously completed to upgrade their mark.  All classes are REMOTE and  SYNCHRONOUS, meaning you are online at specific times, live with your teacher.

Cameras On During Remote Synchronous Learning

In alignment with the Virtual Secondary School policy, students participating in remote synchronous learning through Continuing Education are expected to have their cameras on during instructional time. This requirement supports student engagement, accountability, and helps create a positive and interactive virtual classroom environment. Keeping cameras on allows educators to monitor participation, offer immediate feedback, and build a sense of community that reflects the in-person learning experience

Students  must meet the prerequisite requirements to enroll in a Night School course. Students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to consult with their day school Guidance Counsellor to review course selections.

DATES AND TIMES

Night School runs for 15 weeks with two semesters each year, 2 days a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.:

  • Semester 1: September to January
  • Semester 2: February to June

If you are TDSB secondary student who is interested in taking an online, mostly asynchronous course as part of your timetable, the e-Learning Day School program may be for you. e-Learning courses are primarily asynchronous and run for a full semester. Teachers deliver synchronous lessons weekly for about an hour. Students are expected to log in daily and to keep up-to-date with their assignments.

Secondary students in the TDSB who are enrolled in one or more courses at their day school can include one e-Learning course per semester as part of their regular timetable. The course request must first be approved by the school Guidance Counsellor. Once the student is enrolled in an e-Learning course, the course is added to the student’s current day school timetable.

Please note that although e-Learning courses are asynchronous, they are not self-paced courses. Assignments and evaluations are to be completed and submitted according to the due dates established in the course outline.  Students are expected to log in and commit 75-90 minutes daily to engage in and complete work independently.  While it may vary throughout the duration of the course, that is the equivalent of 75-minutes of class time, along with homework time.
